It seems as if it was only yesterday that I attended Gloc9's "Mga Kwento ng Makata" album lauch. Now I again find myself attending the launch of a brand new album "Lihim at Liham" at the Eastwood Activity Center. Talk about prolific---this is Gloc9's 7th album and his third in the last three years!
"Sirena", MKNM's carrier single reaped numerous awards and critical acclaim and rose to become the official anthem of the third sex. In "Lihim at Liham" Gloc9 again tackles another controversial topic---PROSTITUTION. In the song "Magda" Gloc9 tandems with another Filipino music icon in Rico Blanco and I must say that all the pre-launch foreplay did not disappoint. I was able to get an advanced peak at the lyrics of this song and I told myself that this is another "Sirena" in the making.
Well, prostitution may be humankind's oldest profession but it is still considered as taboo and prostitutes generally ostracised by society. It is a subject matter only talked about in closed doors, oftentimes in men's locker room. As Gloc9 implored during the launch, let us not be too hasty in passing judgement to those who have fallen in this particular quagmire of our society for they too have their story to tell. After all, not all of us are fortunate to have been given more opportunities to do better in life. Sometime, we've got to do what we've got to do to survive.
Another song that got my attention was "KMT". Other than its very danceable beat, I draw affinity to this song as a commuter, father, labandero, plantsador and that pretty lady who Gloc9 sang it with, Eunice Jorge of Gracenote. She sang this song with such gusto that I became an instant fan! Way to go girl!
Congratulations to team Gloc9 for a very successful album launch! Despite the fact that you have not eaten lunch and dinner yet and another early morning commitment to go to the next day, for you to have stayed and signed all those CDs is a true sign of your dedication and utmost commitment to your fans. Saludo ako sa iyo! More power!
